Samsung recently held their first 2021 Unpacked event, where they announced some major flagship mobile devices they have in line, including the highly anticipated Galaxy S21 lineup. The event also showcased the all-new Galaxy Buds Pro true wireless earbuds and the SmartTag tracking device. Let’s explore the event and Samsung’s latest announcements/releases.
Samsung Galaxy S21 Lineup
Galaxy S series is Samsung’s primary flagship lineup in the smartphone department. At the event, they announced three new devices for this year’s S lineup, namely: S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra. At a glance, the most prominent new feature of the S21 lineup was its brand new design. The new camera module on the back takes up an entire corner of the phones, giving them a modern look.
The other new features were:
- The integration of the new 5nm Snapdragon 888 chip
- The integration of the new 5nm Exynos 2100 chip
- New materials
- Minimal packaging
Otherwise, the lineup is almost identical to the previous S20 devices. However, the most interesting point was that all of these new devices ship without a charger or earphones in the box. They have followed Apple’s steps to minimize e-waste and considerably cut back on pricing.
Here’s a quick look at the newly announced devices, with their respective prices and release dates.

This year’s base S21 model is surprisingly more affordable than last year’s base S20 model, mainly because Samsung has opted to go for plastic rather than glass on the back. However, the new material has a frosted look and feel, retaining the premium look and feel of the device. Also, the new S21 Ultra model now has support for the S Pen stylus
No Charger in the Box!
Samsung has also joined the trend of removing some accessories from the box to save space and benefit the environment. Just like the iPhone 12 devices, the new S21 devices also ship without a charger in the box. However, you can still buy first-party and more affordable third-party devices like the Kokovolta USB Wall Plug Charger, which comes with QC 3.0 and support for USB-C cables!
