LEC Spring Split 2021 Playoffs

League of Legends European Championship (LEC) has become one of the most entertaining and competitive leagues in the League of Legends esports scene. The European region has created superstars that define the competitiveness of League of Legends and it is on its way to creating more. The first split of the year is the best way to identify the upcoming stars and talents and the Spring Split of the 2021 LEC season has already begun. The tournament commenced on January 22 with its regular season consisting the group stage matches.

This 3rd year of the rebranded European Championship got to see some major roster changes before its first regular season. These include rebranding of teams, exporting of players, and new recruitments. Out of the many, some eyecatching changes were the exportation of the LEC superstar Perkz to the LCS, rebranding of Origen as Astralis, and the controversial team change of the superstar ADC Rekkless to reunite with his old teammate Caps. The first official LEC league of the year started with these changes and many more and a total of 10 teams participated in it. The group stage was in a Double Round Robin format and the teams who got a chance to participate in it is as follows:

  • Excel
  • Schalke 04
  • Fnatic
  • G2 Esports
  • MAD Lions
  • Misfits Gaming
  • Rogue
  • SK Gaming
  • Team Vitality

After some intense and action-filled matches, the regular season of the split came to an end on March 14 and the top 6 teams got the chance to proceed to the playoffs. These top 6 teams are:

  1. G2 Esports
  2. Rogue
  3. MAD Lions
  4. Schalke 04
  5. Fnatic
  6. SK Gaming

The playoff stage of the Spring Split consists of 2 brackets; winners and losers. The top 4 teams get to play in the winners’ bracket while the 5th and 6th seeds get to show their skills in the losers’ bracket. The winners of the first round in the winners’ bracket get to advance to the semifinals straight away while the rest has to grind their way to the finals from the lower bracket. All the matches will be best-of-5 and the playoffs stage also features a €200,000 prize pool and the grand LEC trophy for the winners to take. However, the main prize is a spot at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational. The playoffs stage of the 2021 Spring Split commences on March 26 and goes on for 2 weeks of thrilling competitive League of Legends action.
