DC FanDome, the online event, was held on August 22, 2020. This virtual event was Warner Bros. and DC’s response to the cancellation of San Diego Comic-Con, where they initially planned to hold their convention. However, the virtual convention was a great success, with millions of viewers tuning in to find out what plans and announcements DC had to make. The fans not only got to take a look at the brand-new Batman movie featuring Robert Pattinson, they also got a peek at two new upcoming games based on the DC comic universe.

Of the two games that were announced, the main attraction was Gotham Knights, which is an upcoming, role-playing, action video game based on some of the most famous DC comics characters, including Batman and his supporting cast. However, the official information about the game and initial looks at the gameplay indicate that players won’t be playing as Batman in the game, but as Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood. The trailers and gameplay showcases mention that Batman and Commissioner Gordon are dead, and the rest of the knights are taking on the growing crime in the city of Gotham. An exact release date wasn’t announced, but you can expect to enjoy this game somewhere around 2021 on the next generation of consoles and PCs.

The other game that was announced during the same event was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This is an upcoming, action-adventure video game set in an open world based on the fictional city of Metropolis. The developer, Rocksteady Studio, was also the studio behind the highly successful Batman: Arkham games series. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is said to be based in the same Arkham-verse. Players will get to experience the story and the world through the eyes of the Suicide Squad. Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark are hinted to be the game’s playable characters, and the trailers show DC super-villain Brainiac attacking the city with Superman under his control. The game is set to be released in 2022 on the next generation of consoles and PCs. However, fans have already started comparing the game to the Avengers game, which most of them have mixed feelings about, and they predict that the game is going to be a flop. But after all, the game is coming from Rocksteady Studios, the creator of the Batman Arkham series, so it probably will live up to the studio’s expectations.

What are your thoughts on these two newly announced DC games?
