When talking about the ever-expanding universe of video games, Hideo Kojima is a name that always comes up. The Japanese designer is a legend in the gaming industry, as he has created so many masterpieces in that world. The Metal Gear Solid series is considered his best creation so far, but a new competitor for that title just joined recently: Death Stranding. Death Stranding highlights Kojima’s creativity and gives the players a truly entertaining masterpiece with an out-of-this-world narrative and game concept.

Death Stranding was initially released for PS4 on November 8, 2019. It was released for Microsoft Windows on July 14, 2020. The game is an absolute game-changer for the traditional gameplay experience. Kojima has successfully delivered the post-apocalyptic vibe through the game’s graphics, elements, and sounds. Its map is comparatively huge (three times as big as The Witcher 3) and features mesmerizing scenes and melodies via its brilliant artistry and musical score. Even though the map is huge, it’s composed of mostly empty landscape filled with rocks, hills, and grasslands. But you won’t feel bored; you’ll be busy admiring the game’s beauty and balancing your cargo. The amazing work of Mike Niederquell, the lead sound designer, and Yoji Shinkawa, the lead designer, perfectly delivers an unequaled atmosphere for the player.

After its release for the PS4 in 2019, the game went on to win several awards at some major events for its sound design, direction, and casting. It was nominated for several “Game of the Year” awards as well. This recognition was achieved through outstanding performances by the dev and casting teams. The protagonist was played by Norman Reedus, who worked alongside Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and Mads Mikkelsen, making the game extra special. Together, they bring a fallen America and some fictional chaotic elements to the game, making it an undeniable masterpiece. The concept, the narrative, and the design are well executed; the game surely deserves a spot in the video game universe hall of fame.

More than eight months after its initial PS4 release, the game was finally released to the PC platform with some enhanced game elements. The PC release includes various improvements in graphic elements, such as enhanced textures, support for Ray Tracing, support for ultra-wide resolutions, and bug fixes. Hideo Kojima himself claimed that playing the game on a PC will make the players feel like they are actually watching a movie. Another desirable element that accompanied the game was its compatibility with DLSS 2.0. Selected Nvidia cards (RTX lineup) will be able to support this feature to enhance game graphics at higher resolutions and mind-blowing frame rates. The PS4 version of the game has a Metacritic rating of 82/100, and the PC version has an 87/100. Death Stranding is currently the top-selling game on Steam, and you can enjoy this masterpiece for a low price of $59.99. It is a “must-play” game for every gamer out there.
